Greg Sampson, the head coach of the Piscataway Magnet baseball program, has been honored as the 2026 Greater Middlesex Conference Coach of the Year, a testament to his steady guidance and deep baseball expertise.
A Season Defined by Excellence
Under Sampson’s leadership the team posted a perfect 12‑0 record in conference play, capturing the Gold Division title and setting a school record with 25 victories overall. The run included a string of one‑run games, several of which ended with walk‑off hits that kept the momentum alive.
What makes the accomplishment even more remarkable is the presence of five volunteer coaches who worked alongside Sampson, a rarity that added depth to the program and fostered a collaborative environment.
Athletic director Mike Pede praised Sampson’s even‑keeled temperament, noting that his level‑headedness has been a cornerstone of the team’s success and has inspired both players and volunteers alike.
Returning Talent and Future Outlook
Key contributors such as Kyle Malchiodi, Colton Lyerly, Trey Lyerly, Vincent Canavan and Brody Guthrie are expected to return next season, giving the program a solid foundation to build on.
The blend of experienced seniors and emerging underclassmen positions Piscataway Magnet as a contender for another deep run in the coming year.
