The Gresham High School boys soccer program is entering the 2026 season with a clear ambition: to capture the Mt. Hood Conference title and to break past the first round of the state tournament, a feat that eluded them a year ago. Building on a bronze medal in the conference and a postseason appearance, the team is focused on turning potential into performance.
Experience and Leadership
Coach Mauricio Gomez brings a steady hand and a belief that the squad possesses the depth and talent to compete at the top of the conference. Junior forward Alex Garcia and senior forward Alexander Galdamez have set their sights on the "Golden Boot" award, while midfield anchor Ariel Hernandez promotes the team's "Gophers system" to newcomers, ensuring a cohesive playing style.
Defensive Foundations
Defensively, the Gophers rely on aerial dominance and backline speed. Seniors Jesus Lopez Ramirez, Oscar Beltran and veteran Jahir Lopez anchor a backline that was shaky last year but is now one of the most experienced and reliable units on the roster. In goal, Alonso Mora, who saw significant minutes last season, is expected to protect the net and provide stability between the posts.
Building a Community Culture
Beyond the pitch, the program is placing a strong emphasis on attendance, academic performance, and community outreach. Spectators are being invited to games, and the team aims to represent Gresham with pride, fostering relationships that extend beyond the final whistle.
