A Pitcher Who Redefines the Mold
Grey Sanders, a 6‑foot‑3 right‑hander from Mulvane, has become the centerpiece of his team’s postseason push. This season he boasts a 0.15 ERA and a fastball that consistently hits 97 mph, a combination that has left batters swinging at air more often than not. In 48 innings he has recorded 96 strikeouts, building on a career tally of 265 strikeouts over 138 innings with a 1.16 ERA.
Beyond the numbers, Sanders is committed to playing at the University of Kansas, a decision that underscores his blend of discipline and ambition. His father, Dave Sanders, a former Chicago White Sox pitcher, now serves as a pitching instructor at D3 Training in Derby, providing a familial foundation that has shaped Grey’s approach on the mound.
Mulvane’s pitching staff is bolstered by a cadre of talented arms, including Hagen Warkins, Parker Clubb and Brody Clasen, each adding depth and reliability. The Wildcats’ lineup also features high‑impact hitters such as Clubb, Warkins, Grady Myers, Hays Ensley, Manny Myers and Reed Hackleman, giving the team a balanced threat at the plate.
The road to the state championship has not been without obstacles. Mulvane’s only defeat this season came at the hands of McPherson, a team they are set to meet again in the semifinals. A victory would mark the second baseball title in the school’s history and cement the Wildcats’ place among the state’s elite programs.
Legacy in the Making
What began as a promising freshman season has evolved into a narrative of perseverance and excellence. With each pitch, Grey Sanders not only chases a personal dream of collegiate glory but also writes a new chapter for his hometown, his family and the generations of Wildcats who will follow.
