Gull Lake Football Players Move to Parchment in Emergency Co‑Op Amid Safety Concerns

Up to 18 athletes may join Parchment’s varsity squad while the MHSAA reviews the arrangement, as the school district grapples with an ongoing assault investigation

A Season Cut Short

The Gull Lake school board has voted to approve an emergency co‑op that would allow up to 18 of its football players to join the varsity team at Parchment High School.

The move comes after the Gull Lake football season was cancelled due to safety concerns linked to an alleged assault investigation at a June football camp in Oceana County.

Under the arrangement, the players could begin practicing with Parchment athletes as early as Thursday, and one home game is slated to be played at Gull Lake for senior night.

MHSAA Approval Required

The Michigan High School Athletic Association must sign off on the co‑op before the players are permitted to practice with Parchment and wear its jerseys.

Parchment currently fields 19 players on its varsity squad, meaning the addition of Gull Lake athletes would bring the roster to a higher total.

Investigation Continues

Michigan State Police are leading the investigation into the assault allegations, reviewing documentation and video that relate to the incidents.

Authorities have not disclosed the number of alleged incidents or victims, and no charges have been filed as of now.

The school district emphasized that the co‑op is a temporary measure while the safety concerns are addressed and while the MHSAA evaluates the proposal.
