A community basketball gathering at Reservoir Park in Fort Wayne drew a crowd of local players and fans, headlined by YouTube streamer D’Vontay Friga, who boasts more than 1.3 million subscribers.
A Sudden Threat on the Court
Mid‑game, an individual brandished a firearm, startling participants and onlookers. The sudden display of violence cut short what had been an upbeat, nationally visible event.
Fort Wayne Police confirmed that no injuries were reported and that the suspect fled the scene before officers could intervene.
Attendee Keivon Lee later spoke of his disappointment, calling the incident a “frustrating” interruption to a moment he described as a positive showcase for the city on a national stage.
Community leader Rezz Golden, who helped organize the event, said the atmosphere had been “good energy” before the disruption and urged residents not to let the few troublemakers eclipse the event’s broader benefits.
Golden emphasized that the community must come together to address the underlying issues that allow such incidents to occur, ensuring that future gatherings can continue to foster unity and pride.
