Gunnar Felton, a highly touted defensive back from Christian Brothers Academy, has officially committed to play college football at the United States Military Academy, announcing his decision on Thursday.
Recruitment Journey
Despite missing the bulk of his junior season because of a lingering injury, Felton’s performances at a series of summer camps caught the eye of Army assistant coach John Loose, who began recruiting the prospect intensively.
Felton’s recruitment story underscores the value of exposure camps, where standout moments can translate into scholarship offers even when a player’s high school schedule is disrupted.
He will join a 2026 secondary that already includes commitments from JT Vogel, who chose Princeton, and Chase McIntyre, who opted for Fordham, making him the third member of the class from the Capital Region to pledge to a service academy.
Beyond the field, Felton plans to major in economics at Army, a decision he says reflects both his academic interests and his desire to serve after graduation.
The young athlete is also eager to return to competition, expressing confidence that his high school team can capture a state championship now that he will be fully healthy.
Coach Loose praised Felton’s resilience and football IQ, noting that the player’s ability to overcome adversity should translate into immediate impact on the defensive unit.
Felton’s commitment adds depth to Army’s recruiting class and signals a continued focus on building a competitive secondary that can compete nationally.
