Jerry Fulks, the newly appointed associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Guntersville High School, has resigned after being charged with public intoxication at a local football jamboree.
The jamboree that turned sour
The incident unfolded on the night of the jamboree, which was intended to give Fulks a chance to scout Arab High School, the team’s Week 1 opponent, before the season officially began.
Earlier that week, Guntersville had suffered a 35‑17 loss to Douglas, marking the first defeat to that opponent since 2012 and adding a sting to the program’s early preparations.
In the wake of the charge, the school board accepted Fulks’s resignation, clearing the way for a new defensive leadership structure as the team gears up for its season‑opening matchup.
Looking ahead to Friday night
The upcoming contest against Arab is scheduled for Friday night, a game that will now be overseen by a different defensive scheme and a fresh coaching perspective.
