George Washington University’s men’s basketball program has unveiled its 2026‑27 non‑conference schedule, a 14‑game lineup that blends nine home contests with four neutral‑site battles and a road trip to face an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent. The announcement was made on Tuesday, highlighting the program’s intent to test itself early and build momentum for Atlantic 10 play.
The slate is designed to give the Colonials a strong early test, pitting them against former NCAA Tournament participants such as Navy, UMBC and Long Island, while also providing opportunities to attract national television audiences and build momentum for Atlantic 10 play.
Coach Chris Caputo emphasized that the schedule represents the toughest strength of schedule of his five‑year tenure, noting that five of the opponents rank inside the top‑125 of Bart Torvik’s preseason metrics.
GW enters the campaign with 71 victories in his first four seasons, the most since the early 1990s, underscoring the program’s recent resurgence.
The home portion opens with a string of five consecutive games at the Smith Center, beginning with Navy on November 2, followed by Hampton, Elon, Harvard and Division II Ferrum, before a two‑game swing at the Greenbrier Tip‑Off in West Virginia.
After the Tip‑Off, the team returns to Washington for a stretch of four straight home games, highlighted by a Black Friday matchup against UMBC on November 27.
December brings additional home dates against Southeastern Louisiana, Long Island and American, culminating in a home‑and‑home series with Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, on December 12.
The non‑conference portion wraps up with participation in the Texas Legends College Classic, where GW will meet San Francisco and reigning Mountain West champion Utah State in early December.
Beyond the schedule, the Colonials are aiming for a third straight postseason appearance, having secured their first NIT opening‑round win since 2017 at Utah Valley.
