A Comeback for the Ages
Hall High School’s baseball team entered the CCC championship facing a 7‑0 hole after Southington exploded for seven runs in the opening inning. The early onslaught seemed to set the tone, but the Titans refused to surrender.
The turning point arrived in the fourth when Hall answered with three runs, narrowing the gap and shifting momentum. The rally continued in the fifth, where the team added four more runs, taking a 7‑6 lead.
Josh Gertner’s two‑run single in the fifth tied the game, igniting a surge that culminated in an eighth‑inning walk‑off. Matt LaBreck, who entered in the second inning, shut down Southington’s offense with 3 ⅔ scoreless innings, preserving the lead.
Veteran pitcher Luke Prozzo of Southington had delivered 3 ⅓ hitless frames before Hall’s bats finally cracked his dominance. Meanwhile, Hall’s starter Grant Davidson was pulled after a rocky first inning, underscoring the pressure on the Titans’ rotation.
The victory marked the third straight year Southington had contested the championship, but for Hall — seeded third while their opponents held the top seed — it was a first conference tournament title. The win also highlighted the depth of talent on the roster, with contributions from players such as Lou Sauer, Dom Zigmont, Drew Kelly and others who helped sustain the rally.
Beyond the scoreboard, the triumph reflects a broader resurgence of baseball in the region, echoing the University of Connecticut’s long‑standing commitment to the sport through its own programs and community outreach.
