Semifinalists Named for 2027 Induction
The National Soccer Hall of Fame announced its semifinalist lists for the 2027 induction cycle, dividing the competition into Veteran and Builder categories. The announcement marks the first step toward selecting a new class of honorees later this year.
In the Veteran Ballot, the Hall recognizes retired players who have been away from professional competition for more than ten calendar years. From a pool of 127 eligible candidates, a nine‑person committee narrowed the field to 19 semifinalists, among them Aldo Balsano, David Beckham and several other distinguished names.
The Builder Ballot focuses on non‑playing contributors such as coaches, referees and other influential figures. This year the Builder election is limited exclusively to coaches, and the committee selected 24 semifinalists from 32 candidates, including Gregg Berhalter and Clive Charles.
From Semifinalists to Inductees
Each ballot will be trimmed further, with the Veteran category narrowing to ten finalists and the Builder category to four. A 24‑member Veteran Voting Committee will determine the inductees, and a candidate who receives at least 75 % of the votes could earn a second spot. The Builder Voting Committee will select a single inductee from the final four.
The Hall has said that a maximum of six new members will be elected: three players, two veterans and one builder. Finalists across all three ballots are scheduled to be announced later, after which the voting bodies will finalize the class.
The upcoming votes will decide which of the listed semifinalists ultimately receive the honor, continuing a tradition that celebrates both on‑field excellence and behind‑the‑scenes contributions.
