The National Baseball Hall of Fame is set to host its inaugural Hall of Fame Military Classic at Doubleday Field on May 23, a day that blends baseball nostalgia with a broader celebration of American heritage.
A Vision Rooted in History
Hall President Josh Rawitch has spent years experimenting with events at Doubleday Field, turning what began as a series of trial weekends into a deliberate strategy to create a second tentpole beyond the traditional induction weekend in July.
The festival zone will transform the surrounding parking lot into a vibrant marketplace, featuring food trucks, bounce houses, face painters, balloon artists and displays of military‑themed vehicles, inviting families and visitors of all ages to linger beyond the game itself.
On the diamond, former MLB stars such as Jeremy Affeldt and Nick Ahmed will share the field with Hall of Famers including Wade Boggs and Rollie Fingers, mixing competition with a nostalgic showcase that honors the sport’s legends.
New Era has signed on as the presenting sponsor, supplying caps worn by players, while Ebbets Field Flannels will provide retro‑style uniforms that pay tribute to the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, adding a visual layer of military pride to the event.
MLB Network will broadcast live editions of “Intentional Talk” and “MLB Now” from Cooperstown on May 22, and will produce post‑event coverage, compensating for the limited broadcast infrastructure at Doubleday Field.
Organizers anticipate an attendance of 5,700 visitors, a figure that reflects both the draw of the military theme and the growing appetite for immersive sports experiences that connect baseball to broader American narratives.
By anchoring the event in the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, the Hall aims to cement the Military Classic as a repeatable summer centerpiece that blends sport, history and community outreach.
