The Harwich Mariners finally broke out of their early-season slump, securing their first victory of the campaign in a tightly contested matchup against the Bourne Braves at Whitehouse Field.
Litman's Five‑Inning Masterclass
James Litman took the mound and delivered a stellar performance, limiting the Braves to a single run while striking out eight batters over five frames. His high‑velocity fastball kept hitters off balance, and a well‑timed changeup induced weak contact that the Mariners capitalized on.
The offense rallied early when Ryan Gerety stole home in the top of the third after a passed ball, plating the game's first run. Sean O’Leary followed with a two‑RBI single in the fifth, driving in Ernie Echevarria and Julio Solier, while Gerety added a second run later in the inning.
Infielders turned a 5‑4‑3 double play to extricate Litman from a bases‑laden jam, and right fielder Colin Larson made a diving catch in the bottom of the first to squash a potential rally. Catcher Ernie Echevarria also threw out a would‑be stealer at second, underscoring the team's defensive sharpness.
Micah Rienstra‑Kiracofe showcased his speed, drawing a walk, stealing second and third, and later scoring on a sacrifice fly that brought home Ryan Gerety. Three Mariners — Larson, Gerety and Rienstra‑Kiracofe — posted multiple steals, highlighting an aggressive baserunning approach.
Coach Englert praised the club's ability to get runners into scoring position and execute key hits, noting the momentum heading into their home opener against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks on Monday night at Whitehouse Field, scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
