San Juan Hills began its campaign with a 67‑0 shutout of Kaneohe Castle on Oahu, a result that underscored the team’s depth and set a tone for the year.
Rushing for 93 yards and a touchdown, Nikos Ioja was a central figure in the blowout, while quarterback duo Preston Getz and Eiler King combined for three scoring passes.
Edison followed with a 41‑27 win over Iolani, where Sam Thomson threw three touchdowns, and the Chargers are slated to meet Phoenix Pinnacle on August 28 at Huntington Beach High.
Other Alpha League teams also posted impressive scores: Capistrano Valley routed Damien 55‑6, Villa Park edged Farrington 55‑6 with Jacob Titchenal delivering three TD passes, and Newport Harbor blanked Nanakuli 41‑0, highlighted by Jordan Spigarelli’s four touchdown throws.
The early results have already translated into rankings, with San Juan Hills positioned at No. 11 and Edison at No. 14 in the Orange County preseason top 25.
Looking ahead, Villa Park will travel to face Western at El Modena High on August 27, while Newport Harbor prepares for a Friday showdown against Murrieta Mesa at its home field.
