The Hawai'i women's soccer team will meet Seattle University in an exhibition match on August 9, bringing together fans and players for a cause that extends beyond the pitch.
A Match With a Mission
The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at King Kekaulike High School in Pukalani, Maui, and tickets will be sold at $5 per person.
All proceeds from the contest will be funneled to the Lahaina Memorial Project, the nonprofit effort aimed at erecting a lasting tribute to those lost in the recent Lahaina fire, while additional funds will bolster the community’s ongoing recovery through the Lahaina fire relief fund.
Youth Clinic Extends the Celebration
Immediately after the final whistle, a free Keiki Clinic will open its doors at 5:45 p.m., inviting boys and girls aged five to fourteen to learn from current Rainbow Wahine athletes and their Seattle University counterparts.
The first hundred participants will receive a complimentary t‑shirt, and families are asked to equip their children with water, a soccer ball, appropriate footwear and a light jacket, with waiver forms to be signed before play begins.
Community Impact
Organizers hope the event will not only raise vital resources for memorial construction but also reinforce a sense of unity among island residents still healing from the disaster. By coupling competitive soccer with a hands‑on clinic, the initiative seeks to inspire the next generation of players while channeling financial support directly to those most in need.
