Hayden Hicks Takes the Helm of Midland High Boys Soccer

The former Lee High standout and Texas Tech graduate succeeds Jason Bush, bringing a lifelong soccer pedigree to the program.

A New Coach for a New Era

Hayden Hicks has been appointed head coach of the Midland High boys soccer program, taking over from Jason Bush, who stepped down after eight seasons to focus on family.

Hicks, a 2019 graduate of Lee High School and former player for his father Scott Hicks, brings a decade‑long playing and coaching résumé, having spent three years at Goddard Junior High before earning his degree at Texas Tech.

Bush’s eight‑year tenure produced two district championships and five playoff appearances, setting a high bar for the program.

Midland ISD’s Wes Torres highlighted Hicks’s deep knowledge of the game and his palpable passion, noting that the new coach’s vision aligns with the district’s athletic goals.

Drawing on three decades of coaching from his father, Hicks said he has learned the importance of program coordination and culture‑building, lessons he absorbed from athletic directors Antwan Alexander and Terrance Green at Goddard.

He has already met several Midland High players through the summer strength and conditioning program, describing the squad as a talented group of youngsters eager to prove themselves against upperclassmen.

Hicks emphasized that his coaching philosophy blends experience across multiple sports, aiming to foster a competitive yet supportive environment as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
