Weekend Highlights
The Healdsburg Prune Packers completed a three‑game sweep of the Humboldt Crabs, outscoring their opponents 26‑5 across the series and moving to sole first place in the Pacific Empire League. The victories, decided by scores of 10‑3, 8‑0 and 8‑2, lifted the Packers to a 1.5‑game advantage over the Lincoln Potters and a 3.5‑game lead over the Medford Rogues.
Statistically, the Packers now top the league in extra‑base hits, total bases, home runs, earned‑run average and batting average against, underscoring a well‑rounded offensive and pitching attack. Contributions were spread across the roster, with Michael Ossenfort and Rex Watson shining in the opener, while Zack Serup, Aidan Russell, Michael Quedens, Paul Grossman, Caden Duke and Brandon Mann combined for an 8‑0 shutout in the second game. The third win featured home runs from Dane Morrow, Hideki Prather and Brenden Lewis, sealing the sweep.
Looking ahead, the Packers are scheduled to face the Lincoln Potters, the Humboldt Crabs and the Medford Rogues over the next week, a stretch that could further extend their lead if they maintain their current momentum.
Stompers on a Roll
Meanwhile, the Sonoma Stompers continued their eight‑game winning streak, adding six more victories last week that kept them perched in third place in the CCL‑North standings behind the Walnut Creek Crawdads and the San Luis Obispo Blues. The streak includes two 6‑2 and 6‑3 wins over the SF Seagulls, a 14‑10 shootout triumph over the Alameda Merchants, and a 14‑1 drubbing of the Philippines Baseball Group.
Key moments came from Wesley Bass, who homered and drove in five runs, and Tino Vassel, who collected four hits with three RBIs in the Merchants game. Nic Sebastiani and Anthony Scheppler also contributed multiple RBIs during the series against the Philippines squad, while Gage McCown and Hunter Carlson added solo homers in the Seagulls matchups.
The Stompers are set to meet the Walnut Creek Crawdads later this week, a clash that could determine the final positioning in the division as the season progresses.
