Heat advisory reshapes Little League schedule
A heat advisory issued for the region has led District 16-31 officials to delay several Little League contests that were originally slated for earlier in the evening, prioritizing player safety amid soaring temperatures.
The majority of District 16 Major Baseball games have been moved to an 8 p.m. start, allowing participants and spectators to avoid the peak heat that typically settles in the afternoon.
One notable exception is the Valley East versus Hanover matchup, which will now begin at 6 p.m. to accommodate cooler conditions while still providing a reasonable window for families.
All District 31 Major Baseball games have also been shifted to the 8 p.m. slot, while the District 31 Junior Baseball contest is set for a 6 p.m. start, reflecting the district's effort to balance competition with safety.
The Section 5 Softball playoffs have been rescheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., giving teams a chance to compete before temperatures rise further later in the night.
District administrators stress that these adjustments are temporary and will be reassessed as the weather situation evolves, but they emphasize that the well‑being of participants remains the top priority.
