Heat Wave Forces Schedule Changes
With the region experiencing record‑breaking heat and high humidity, the administrators of District 16‑31 Little League announced a series of timing adjustments for the upcoming games.
On Thursday, six contests will be played, most of them kicking off at 8 p.m., including matchups such as Freeland versus Valley West, Mountain Top against Hazle Twp., and Hazleton taking on Valley East in the Minor Baseball division.
The Minor Baseball slate also features GPA versus Plains at 8 p.m., while in the 9‑10‑11 Baseball category Hazle Twp. will host Mountain Top at the same hour.
District 31’s Minor Baseball schedule includes a 6 p.m. start for GPA at Plains, a 5:45 p.m. game for Swoyersville at Back Mountain, and a 6 p.m. contest between Kingston/Forty Fort and Harveys Lake.
In the 9‑10‑11 Baseball division of District 31, GWA will meet Wilkes‑Barre at 8 p.m., and GPA will travel to Back Mountain at 7:45 p.m.
Section 5 Majors Softball will see GPA face Mountain Top at 6 p.m. at the Carbino Club in Jessup.
Friday’s slate mirrors Thursday’s pattern, with every District 16‑31 baseball game slated to begin at 8 p.m., encompassing Major Baseball fixtures such as Northwest versus Hazle Twp., Hazleton versus Valley West, Freeland versus Valley East, and Hanover versus Mountain Top.
The Major Baseball games in District 31 are set for varied start times, including Back Mountain versus GWA at West Pittston Field, Swoyersville/West Side versus Plains, and GPA versus Wilkes‑Barre.
Saturday’s highlight will be the District 31 Junior Baseball championship, where Township will take on Kingston/Forty Fort at 9 a.m., concluding a weekend of adjusted contests.
