A New Era for Georgia Southern Women's Basketball
Heather Macy stepped into the role of head coach for the Georgia Southern women's basketball program with a clear mandate: to elevate the team's competitiveness and foster player development. Her vision hinges on integrating experienced mentors who can translate deep‑rooted knowledge into tangible growth on the court.
For the upcoming 2026‑27 season, Macy has added five new members to her staff, each chosen for their distinct contributions. The group includes three assistant coaches — Butch Estes, Jasmin Coleman, and Donna Carr — as well as player development analyst Abria Trice and special assistant Josie Earnhardt.
Butch Estes brings more than three decades of collegiate coaching to the program. Over a career that spans multiple institutions, Estes compiled a record of 633‑394 and guided Barry University to five consecutive NCAA Championships. His extensive network and strategic acumen are expected to reinforce the team's defensive schemes and recruiting efforts.
Jasmin Coleman arrives after a standout tenure at Walters State Community College, where she earned the 2023 TCCAA Coach of the Year and Appalachian District Coach of the Year honors. During her time there, Coleman posted a 77‑25 record and cultivated a culture of relentless improvement, qualities she is poised to bring to Georgia Southern.
Donna Carr, a former head coach at Davis & Elkins College, adds both playing and leadership experience. A former standout at the University of South Carolina and Catawba College, Carr’s four‑year stint at Davis & Elkins was marked by steady program advancement and a commitment to player‑centered development.
Abria Trice, who previously collaborated with Macy at Nova Southeastern and Barry Universities, will serve as the player development and analyst. Trice’s international playing career — spanning Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Finland — equips her with a global perspective on the game, while her analytical background promises data‑driven insights for the team.
Josie Earnhardt rounds out the staff as special assistant. A former collegiate player at Hiram, Spartanburg Methodist, and North Georgia, Earnhardt contributed to North Georgia’s 2021‑22 Final Four run. Her familiarity with the program’s culture and her on‑court experience are expected to aid in player mentorship and day‑to‑day operations.
Looking Ahead
The assembled staff represents a blend of championship pedigree, proven leadership, and fresh ideas. As the team prepares for the 2026‑27 season, the synergy among these coaches and analysts will be closely watched by fans and rivals alike. Macy’s strategic hires signal a commitment to building a sustainable winning culture at Georgia Southern.
