Heaven Bailey, a senior guard from Stanhope Elmore, was crowned the Most Valuable Player of the South squad in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s All-Star Girls’ Basketball Classic, a showcase that gathered the state’s top rising seniors.
She finished the exhibition with 17 points, four rebounds and three assists, numbers that barely capture the impact she had on the court and on the expectations for the next generation of Alabama talent.
A Season of Dominance
During her junior year the Lady Mustangs surged to a historic high in the program’s annals, posting a perfect sweep of Wetumpka in their three meetings and capturing the area championship that had eluded the school for decades.
Bailey’s all-state recognition as a Class 6A first-team selection and her designation as the Elmore County Player of the Year underscored a campaign that placed the team among the state’s elite.
Beyond the accolades, Bailey has set her sights on a lofty goal: leading her team to a state championship in her final high school season, a pursuit that has already attracted scholarship offers from a handful of Division I programs.
College recruiters from Delaware, Siena, Alabama State and several community colleges have extended invitations, and Bailey plans to embark on official visits once her AAU schedule concludes.
The upcoming visits will give her a clearer picture of where she can continue to develop both athletically and academically, a decision that could shape the next chapter of her basketball journey.
