Helena Pueyo, the 24‑year‑old guard who helped the Arizona Wildcats capture an NCAA title before launching a professional career in Spain, is poised to leave Zaragoza for Valencia Basket.
A Strategic Move for Valencia
During her two‑year stint with Zaragoza, Pueyo was instrumental in guiding the club to the EuroLeague semifinals and to a third‑place finish in the domestic league, where she topped the team in efficiency, blocks and steals.
Valencia Basket, the reigning Liga Femenina Endesa champions, have built a dynasty of four consecutive titles and 11 domestic trophies, making them one of the most successful clubs in Spanish women's basketball.
The move comes after Pueyo was drafted by the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun in April 2024, only to be released during training camp, prompting her return to Spain where she quickly re‑established herself as a star.
Known for her ability to play any of the five positions, Pueyo averaged 8.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in EuroLeague games and 9.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in the domestic league, figures that helped Zaragoza claim the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
On the international stage, she contributed 5.0 points per game for Spain during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, underscoring her growing role in the national team.
Her versatility and defensive prowess are expected to reinforce Valencia’s already deep roster as they aim to extend their dominance into the next season.
