Season Outlook
Under head coach Chuck Register, the Helias Crusaders are entering their third season with a clear vision. After a slow start in their inaugural year and a .500 record the following season, the program has laid a solid foundation that Register hopes to capitalize on this year.
The coaching staff has identified possession, defensive organization and clearer communication as the three pillars for improvement. The players have embraced the emphasis on disciplined play, and the early practice sessions reflect a collective commitment to raising the standard of performance.
The Crusaders will begin the campaign with two home fixtures, the first of which pits them against St. Mary’s South Side on a Saturday afternoon. The match serves as a litmus test for a squad that is eager to prove its mettle against a tough opponent right out of the gate.
Roster turnover has been significant, with five seniors graduating and sixteen freshmen joining the program. Despite the influx of newcomers, the team retains a core group of experienced seniors who will anchor the lineup.
Returning seniors Parker Johnsen and Atticus Barnes will man the center‑back positions, while Ellis Reed and Colt McDowell provide pace on the outside defensive line. Junior Will Plank is slated to start at defensive centre‑midfield, adding depth and tactical flexibility.
In midfield, Ben Echelmeyer and Joe Lester will share the central duties, supported on the wings by juniors Mason Sipi and Hunter Brauner. Up front, seniors Jonah Metzger and Klein Bonnot will lead the attack, with Jonah targeting a high goal tally and Klein contributing with creative offensive bursts.
Backup goalkeeper Lincoln Scroggins, a freshman, will sit behind Max Huntley, the senior custodian who has set personal targets for the season. Liam Quinn, another junior, will offer a different offensive spark when called upon.
With 52 players on the roster and a blend of senior leadership and fresh talent, the Crusaders are aiming for a district championship and a shot at the Final Four. The ultimate goal is to translate the work done in practice into consistent results on the field.
