In recent interviews he emphasized that his focus remains on the game itself rather than the administrative side of the franchise.
His observations come at a time when the Wings are confronting a significant offensive vacuum. The loss of top‑scorers such as Dylan Larkin, who has publicly requested a trade, and the retirement of veteran Patrick Kane leaves a gap that the team must fill.
Zetterberg points to the parallel situation at Timra, the Swedish club he currently represents, where forwards Jonathan Dahlen and Emil Pettersson will also be departing next season. The Swedish side is already feeling the pressure of replacing those contributors.
Prospects on the Rise
Detroit’s response has been to turn to its own pipeline of talent. The organization drafted forward Eddie Genborg 44th overall in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, and the youngster posted nine goals and 25 points for Timra last season. Finnish center Otto Kivenmaki, selected 191st in 2018, is expected to receive expanded development opportunities and could become a new source of scoring.
Heading into the next chapter, Zetterberg expresses confidence that fresh blood will emerge. He believes the current Timra roster can absorb the loss of Dahlen and Pettersson, and he expects players like Kivenmaki to step up and provide the offensive spark the team needs.
