Western Colorado University announced the hiring of Henry Adams as its newest assistant coach for the men’s basketball program, a move that brings a wealth of experience from some of the nation’s most competitive Division I programs.
A Proven Track Record
Adams arrives after stints at Christopher Newport University, Dominican University, Northwestern University and the University of Miami, where he contributed to deep tournament runs and offensive breakthroughs.
At Christopher Newport, he helped guide the team to a 25‑6 record, a No. 8 national ranking and a Final Four appearance, while overseeing opponent scouting, film breakdown and player development.
His time at Northwestern saw him work closely with All‑American Boo Buie, support back‑to‑back NCAA Tournament appearances and assist in recruiting classes that earned national recognition.
During his two seasons as a graduate assistant at Northwestern, Adams also played a role in a historic upset over an AP No. 1‑ranked Purdue squad, underscoring his ability to impact high‑stakes games.
A Strategic Addition
At Dominican, he managed video analysis and produced scouting reports that boosted offensive efficiency, and at Miami he helped the Hurricanes reach the Elite Eight, win 26 games and defeat Duke and several ranked opponents.
Adams began his career as a student manager at DePaul University, handling daily basketball operations and early recruiting work, laying a foundation for his later leadership roles.
Head coach Zac Claus described the hire as “impactful,” citing Adams’s professionalism, energy and relentless work ethic as qualities that will strengthen the Mountaineers’ program.
A native of Downers Grove, Illinois, Adams holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Miami and a Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Northwestern, blending academic insight with practical coaching expertise.
The addition of Adams signals Western Colorado’s intent to elevate its competitive edge in the Rocky Mountain Conference, leveraging his film‑driven approach and recruiting network to attract top talent.
