A New Chapter for the Mountaineers
Western Colorado University announced this week that Henry Adams will join its men’s basketball program as an assistant coach, bringing a résumé that blends championship experience with a knack for player development.
Adams arrives after a standout tenure at Christopher Newport University, where he helped guide the team to a 25‑6 record, a No. 8 national ranking and a appearance in the NCAA Division III Final Four. In that role he oversaw opponent scouting, film breakdown, recruiting evaluation and game planning, tasks that sharpened the squad’s competitive edge.
His coaching footprint also stretches to Northwestern University, where as a graduate assistant he contributed to back‑to‑back NCAA Tournament appearances and a victory over an AP‑ranked No. 1 opponent. He worked closely with All‑American Boo Buie, helping the Wildcats navigate a period that included multiple top‑tier recruiting classes.
Prior to those positions, Adams honed his analytical skills at Dominican University and the University of Miami, where he managed video analysis, produced scouting reports and played a part in a Miami team that reached the Elite Eight and upset Duke and several other nationally ranked foes. He began his collegiate career as a student manager at DePaul University, supporting basketball operations and recruiting efforts.
Beyond the X’s and O’s, Adams holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Miami and a Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Northwestern, underscoring a commitment to both scholarly and professional growth. His appointment signals Western Colorado’s intent to bolster a program that is eager to translate its mountain‑state grit into national relevance.
