Notre Dame’s Path to the Title
The Irish will miss the production of running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price, but the return of quarterback CJ Carr, who threw for 2,741 yards and 24 touchdowns last season, gives them a potent offensive anchor. A defense that allowed only 14 touchdowns and ranked tenth nationally in scoring defense adds a reliable backbone, while an easier schedule that places them 112th in the country further improves their odds.
Other Contenders Emerging
Herbstreit also pointed to the Miami Hurricanes, the 2025 College Football Playoff runner‑up, as a serious threat. Miami’s offense features quarterback Darian Mensah along with running back Mark Fletcher and wide receiver Malachi Toney, giving the team a dynamic trio. Texas A&M, which captured eleven wins and earned its first playoff berth last season, could ride the arm of quarterback Marcel Reed and a deep receiving corps to a championship run.
