Heritage Christian Academy announced that it will not field a soccer team for the 2026 season, a move driven by a shortage of players that has forced the school to reconsider its athletic offerings.
A program in transition
Stephanie Stallins, the school’s athletics director, said the decision was not made lightly and expressed optimism that interest in the sport could rebound in the coming years.
The decision leaves District 8 with just three soccer programs: Christian County, University Heights Academy and Fort Campbell, a stark reduction that reflects broader participation trends.
In recent years the academy struggled to sustain a competitive side, posting a 1‑25‑1 record over the last two seasons, underscoring the challenges of maintaining a team amid dwindling numbers.
While the current landscape is limited, district officials and local clubs are exploring ways to attract more youth participants, hoping to rebuild a stronger pipeline for high school soccer.
Community support and outreach initiatives are being considered as part of a longer‑term strategy to ensure the sport’s viability in the region.
