Heritage High School’s girls soccer team secured a 2-0 victory over top‑seeded Cardinal Gibbons High School in the regional semifinals, earning a spot in the 7A regional championship.
Goals from junior forward Eden Capps and senior midfielder Margot Gardner proved decisive, while junior Maeve Russell contributed an assist that highlighted the squad’s depth. The win also marked the first time under new head coach Mark Murphy that the Huskies have advanced this far, adding a fresh tactical edge to the side.
A Historic Step Forward
The triumph represents Heritage’s first regional final appearance since 2019, underscoring the program’s steady rise. Earlier in the season, Cardinal Gibbons had edged the Huskies 2-1 in a non‑conference clash on March 18, a loss that motivated the team to refine its strategy.
The Road to the Championship
Heritage will now travel to face Holly Springs, a program that has historically held the upper hand with a 6-2-4 all‑time record against the Huskies. The Golden Hawks eliminated Heritage in both 2022 and 2023, heightening the stakes of the upcoming showdown.
