A Decade in the Making
Hewitt‑Trussville completed a two‑game sweep of the 7A Baseball championship series, capping the tournament with an 8‑0 victory over Auburn that followed a 4‑1 win in the opener.
Coach Jeff Mauldin guided the Huskies through a season of steady improvement, and his strategic adjustments proved decisive in the final two contests.
Dominant Pitching and Offense
Cale McIntosh was the centerpiece of the pitching staff, limiting Auburn to four hits while striking out nine batters over six and two‑thirds innings. At the plate, the lineup erupted for seven runs in the first three innings, with Rylan Clark delivering the final out that sealed the shutout.
The offensive onslaught featured a combined 8‑for‑15 performance from Jace Riggan, Koal Duckett, Hudson Mitchell and McIntosh, who together drove in five runs. The early bursts of scoring set a tone that Auburn could not recover from.
The triumph marks the first state baseball championship for Hewitt‑Trussville in ten years, ending a drought that had lingered since the program’s last title run. The community celebrated the achievement as a milestone for the school’s athletic tradition.
