The Hillsboro High School (HHS) soccer program is set to stage an alumni game fundraiser on August 22 at 5 p.m. at the Hillsboro Sports Complex, a venue that has witnessed countless memorable matches over the years.
A reunion on the field
The event welcomes alumni from the graduating classes of 1993 through 2026, both men and women, providing a rare opportunity for former teammates to reconnect and celebrate the program’s rich history.
Coaches Jason Burke and Matt Lentz, who have guided the team in recent seasons, emphasize that the alumni contest is more than a nostalgic exhibition; it is a strategic springboard to generate buzz as the boys varsity season officially opens on August 24.
Vince Vitale, Adam Pollard, Earl Juston, John Gusick, Rev. Matt Ferguson and Cindy Huber — key figures who have shaped the program’s legacy — are expected to participate, underscoring the deep community ties that bind past and present.
How to join and what to expect
Sign‑up sheets are posted on the HHS website, as well as on social media platforms, at local businesses such as Gianni’s and MCR Realty Professionals, and through The Journal-News website. Participants pay a $40 fee that covers registration, a commemorative shirt, and inclusion in the match roster, while spectators are asked to contribute $5 at the gate.
Concessions will be available throughout the evening, offering a selection of snacks and beverages to enhance the community atmosphere. Organizers have hinted that a second game and an additional field may be added if the response from alumni and supporters exceeds expectations.
Looking ahead
Beyond the immediate fundraiser, the alumni game serves as a catalyst for renewed enthusiasm among current players, who will look to carry the momentum into the upcoming season. With the support of the broader Hillsboro community, the soccer program aims to build on its tradition of excellence and continue its upward trajectory on the regional stage.
