Historic M3A1 Light Tank “Lady Lois” Makes Journey to Pocono Raceway for NASCAR Weekend

The restored Stuart tank, a tribute to World War II veterans, will be showcased in the Veterans’ Village through June 14.

A WWII Relic Rolls into the Heart of NASCAR

The Stuart Tank Memorial Association is preparing to move its fully restored M3A1 Light Tank, affectionately known as "Lady Lois," from its long‑time home in Pennsylvania to the sprawling grounds of Pocono Raceway, where it will serve as a centerpiece for the upcoming NASCAR weekend.

The tank’s journey follows a recent upgrade to its trailer, performed by Cheetah Chassis Corporation in Berwick. The work, completed as a thank‑you to the volunteers who have kept the project alive for more than a decade, restored the towing system to museum‑grade standards.

Transportation was handled by Don E. Bower Incorporated, which supplied a heavy‑duty truck to load and move the 30‑ton piece of history. The logistics were coordinated to ensure a smooth route to the raceway’s Veterans’ Village, where the tank will be on static display through Sunday, June 14.

For the organizers, the tank represents more than a piece of military hardware; it is a tangible link to the veterans who served and a reminder of the community’s commitment to preserving that legacy. Visitors will be able to view the interior, examine the original markings, and learn about the tank’s role in the European theater of World War II.

The display is part of a broader effort to integrate military heritage into the fabric of America’s favorite pastime, blending the roar of engines with the echo of history. As the NASCAR weekend unfolds, "Lady Lois" will stand as a silent tribute to the past, inviting fans to reflect on the sacrifices that made the sport’s modern spectacle possible.
