Coaching pedigree of Drew Bannister
Bannister brings a deep reservoir of experience to the role. He previously coached the Soo Greyhounds, leading the club from 2015 to 2018 and later returning for a second stint. His most recent appointment was as head coach of the St. Louis Blues for the 2024‑25 season, where he oversaw a competitive roster in the NHL.
Internationally, Bannister has represented Canada at multiple levels. He served as an assistant coach for Canada’s National Men’s Under‑18 Team at the 2026 IIHF U18 Men’s World Championship and contributed to the coaching staff that captured gold with Canada’s National Junior Team at the 1994 IIHF World Junior Championship. In 2025 he was an assistant at the Spengler Cup, further sharpening his global résumé.
Dave Brown’s operational expertise
Brown joins Bannister after a distinguished career in hockey management. He was a key member of the leadership group that secured gold at the 2024 IIHF U18 Men’s World Championship in Finland, and he helped Canada White win the 2023 World Under‑17 Hockey Challenge. His background in team operations and player development is expected to complement Bannister’s on‑ice focus.
Both appointments underscore Hockey Canada’s intent to blend proven coaching talent with strong administrative oversight as the organization prepares for the 2027 tournament. The duo will be tasked with shaping a roster that can contend for a medal on the world stage.
