Ashley Sayre, a second‑grade teacher at Eastwood Elementary in Morgantown, piloted the “Helmet Heroes” activity, where her students designed prototype helmets to protect an egg, illustrating how teamwork, critical thinking and real‑world connections can transform a routine lesson into an engaging experiment.

The effort is backed by nearly $100,000 in private investment from several foundations, underscoring a broader commitment to bolster STEM access for under‑resourced schools throughout the region.
