Hogan Denny Secures Spot on Team USA Collegiate National Baseball Squad

The Indiana sophomore’s selection highlights a historic season and sets the stage for an inaugural international tournament.

Hogan Denny, a sophomore at Indiana University, has been named to the Team USA Collegiate National Baseball roster, a distinction that underscores his rapid rise in the college game.

During the previous season he earned First Team All‑Big Ten honors after posting a .357 batting average, a 1.099 OPS, 14 home runs and 44 RBIs, numbers that placed him among the conference’s most potent hitters.

Coach Jeff Mercer praised Denny’s adaptability, noting that he has logged time at catcher, third base, left field and right field, a flexibility that helped the Hoosiers navigate a demanding schedule.

A Milestone for the Program

Denny becomes the seventh player in Indiana’s history to receive a call‑up to the national collegiate squad, and he is only the second under Coach Mercer, marking a new era of talent development for the Hoosiers.

The Inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championship

The tournament will be held in Taichung, Taiwan, from July 11 to 15, featuring teams from the United States, Japan, Chinese Taipei and a wild‑card side selected by the host nation.

Pool play begins on July 11 with a matchup against Korea, followed by contests against Chinese Taipei on July 12 and Japan on July 13. The semifinals are slated for July 14, with the gold‑medal game on July 15.

Beyond the competition, the event replaces the former World University Baseball Championship that ran from 2002 to 2018, and it will see the United States host the tournament in 2027 before handing the reins to Japan in 2028.

Managed by Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb, the U.S. squad will look to translate its collegiate chemistry into international success, a prospect that excites both players and fans alike.
