On September 5, 2024, the Holy Cross Crusaders traveled to Hamilton, New York, for their first road test of the season, only to see the home‑field advantage of Colgate prove decisive. The Raiders surged to a 35‑10 victory, handing the Crusaders their opening loss.
Crusaders Face Early Deficit
Colgate struck first with a 33‑yard touchdown reception that put them up 7‑0, and although Holy Cross answered with a 23‑yard field goal to narrow the gap, the Raiders quickly answered again with a 64‑yard pass, extending the lead to 14‑3 before a one‑yard run by Danny Shaban pushed the score to 21‑3 early in the second quarter.
The Crusaders began to rally when a 17‑yard catch by junior receiver Ty Curran set up sophomore running back Joseph Williams for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 21‑10. However, Colgate answered before halftime with another long touchdown, and a 58‑yard strike to open the second half left Holy Cross trailing 35‑10.
Individual performances dotted the box score: Curran logged a career‑high 130 yards on seven receptions, while quarterback David Lynch completed 19 of 35 passes for 264 yards. Tight end Drae Tyme added a 59‑yard reception, and Williams rushed for 44 yards and a score, becoming the team’s leading rusher. On defense, senior linebacker Adam Due recorded a career‑best 13 tackles, and safety Garrett Baldwin contributed four tackles, three pass breakups and an eight‑yard sack. Junior safety Braden Haas also made a memorable play, intercepting a pass at the goal line for his first career interception.
Looking ahead, the Crusaders will return home to face Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, on October 13 at 1 p.m., a matchup classified as an FBS showdown that will test the team’s resolve after the rocky start.
