Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville announced the suspension of its football program this week, a move that follows the sudden departure of head coach Cain Mack and a cascade of departures among its top players.
Athletic director Matthew Sloan explained that safety concerns and a lack of full‑commitment from a core group of student‑athletes drove the decision, signaling a critical juncture for the school’s sports culture.
The exodus includes six standout seniors — Lance Swift, Joseph Henn, Darnell Rink, Damarien Singh, Jayden Branch, and Marcus Bellard — each of whom has chosen to continue their careers at other institutions.
Swift, a 6‑3, 295‑pound offensive lineman, will enroll at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, while Henn, the recent CHSFL AA‑II Defensive Player of the Year, plans to return to his hometown district at Long Beach and pursue a future in the Marines.
Rink, a key receiver and defensive back, is headed to Eagle Academy III in Queens, Branch will join St. Anthony’s, and Singh, a 2025 CHSFL All‑League selection, will play for St. Francis Prep, also in Queens. Bellard, known for his explosive kick‑return ability, will also seek a new football home.
The Fallout
School officials say the suspension will remain in effect until a revised culture and safety framework are established, with hopes of rebuilding a competitive squad for the next season.
