A group of families, led by former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Brad Thompson, is constructing the Home Turf Sports Complex on a parcel of land recently added to Fairview Heights' Enterprise Zone. The development aims to create a premier destination where athletes of all ages can train, compete and grow across a variety of sports.
Spanning 45,000 square feet, the facility will feature a 27,500‑square‑foot parking lot and a full suite of sport‑specific amenities. In addition to a dedicated baseball field with an MLB‑sized infield, the complex will house six batting cages, two full‑size golf simulators, pitching and hitting labs, a weight room, and a mezzanine with concession space for community events.
City Incentives and Economic Impact
Fairview Heights has expanded its Enterprise Zone to encompass the project site, granting the developer a sales‑tax exemption on building materials. This fiscal incentive underscores the city's commitment to attracting high‑quality sports infrastructure and is expected to generate jobs during both construction and operation.
The complex is slated to become fully operational by February, at which point it will host leagues, tournaments and open‑play sessions across baseball, softball, football, soccer and lacrosse. Organizers envision the venue as a catalyst for regional youth sports, offering families a centralized, state‑of‑the‑art training environment.
