Hong Kong’s shopping malls became unexpected stadiums on Sunday night as thousands of football fans streamed into venues to watch the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
A Night of Football in the Mall
The three‑storey Tuen Mun Town Plaza was packed on every level, with families, teenagers and even elderly supporters filling the aisles and food courts.
A massive 540‑inch screen displayed the match, bringing Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal onto the big screen for the first time in the city’s retail spaces.
Vendors set up pop‑up stalls selling bubble tea, dim sum and other snacks, while ParknShop kept its doors open overnight to supply drinks and fruit to the crowd.
Promotions such as “buy three, get one free” attracted shoppers, and many ordered extra food deliveries to be brought to the viewing area.
When the final whistle blew, taxis queued at the mall’s entrance to ferry exhausted fans home, capping a night that turned ordinary retail space into a communal arena.
