A Global Court of Inclusion
Since its founding in 1994, Hoop Camp has evolved from a modest Oregon‑based clinic into a worldwide movement that offers three‑day basketball sessions for athletes with mental or physical disabilities. The program’s home base remains the Tualatin Hills Athletic Center in Beaverton, Oregon, where the first clinics were held.
Steve Garrity, who has led the initiative from the start, has expanded the schedule to include events in Canada, Mexico and dozens of U.S. cities, aiming to maintain roughly 70 clinics each year. His vision blends competitive play with a deeper emphasis on personal development and community building.
Participants such as Xay, who captured the layup championship in his debut year, and Carly, a veteran who has attended for over two decades, illustrate the unique milestones that the camp nurtures. Their stories reflect how the program transforms confidence on the court into lasting empowerment off it.
The seamless operation of each clinic depends on a dedicated cadre of volunteers. Their presence ensures that newcomers feel welcomed, that every athlete is celebrated, and that the spirit of inclusion reverberates across every court where the program reaches.
