Empowering Young Athletes in Kenya
The second annual Hoops 4 Her basketball camp kicked off in Kenya on August 3, bringing together young women from across the country for a week of skill‑building, education and community.
The Greater Kansas City Women's Basketball League (GABL) joined forces with former professional player Kessler to make the event possible, delivering basketballs, notebooks and sneakers to each participant.
Nick Ray, GABL’s communication coordinator, praised Kessler’s infectious enthusiasm, noting that her positive energy has become a catalyst for the camp’s growing impact.
Looking Ahead
Both organizations see the camp as a springboard for a longer‑term partnership, with plans to expand resources and reach more girls in future editions.
Kessler, who originally envisioned a one‑time clinic, now looks forward to watching the players develop and even picks up basic Swahili greetings to connect with the girls in their own language.
