A New Era of Rebounding for the Hoosiers
Indiana’s basketball coach Darian DeVries has made a clear pledge: the Hoosiers will become one of the nation’s elite offensive rebounding teams this season.
Last year the team finished 16th in the Big Ten in offensive rebounding rate, a statistic that held them back from deeper tournament runs.
What changed is the addition of two towering big men — Aiden Sherrell and Samet Yigitoglu — who together form the tallest frontcourt duo in program history, giving the team the size and length to dominate the glass.
DeVries notes that his previous four squads ranked 298th or worse in offensive rebounding, underscoring the urgency of the overhaul.
Frontcourt Size Redefines the Paint
Sherrell and Yigitoglu bring a combined wingspan and vertical reach that stretches defenses and creates mismatches against smaller opponents.
Their presence allows the team to attack the offensive boards from multiple angles, forcing opponents to collapse and opening driving lanes for guards.
The coaching staff has already adjusted practice drills to emphasize boxing out and positioning, aiming to turn raw athleticism into consistent rebounding production.
