The Indiana Hoosiers baseball team saw their season come to a close on Saturday night at Bart Kaufman Field, where they fell 9-7 to the Illinois Fighting Illini in the final game of a three-game series.
Illinois struck first, plating three runs in the opening inning and building an early cushion that would prove pivotal.
The Hoosiers rallied, stringing together four innings of steady hitting that brought the score level at three-all, a turn sparked by clutch singles from Caleb Koskie and a timely double from Hogan Denny.
Indiana’s defense kept the Illini at bay through the sixth inning, but Illinois answered with a burst of four runs across three frames, shifting momentum decisively.
A Late Rally Falls Short
In the ninth inning, Will Moore and Hogan Denny launched back-to-back home runs, knotting the game at 7-7 and igniting hopes of a dramatic finish.
Illinois, however, answered in the tenth with two more runs, sealing a 9-7 victory and leaving the Hoosiers with a narrow defeat.
The loss dropped Indiana to 22-31 overall and 8-21 in Big Ten play, but the team will look to finish the season on a high note in their last scheduled game on Saturday.
