The Indiana Hoosiers kicked off their 2026 campaign in front of one of the largest audiences the program has seen in recent memory, as Bill Armstrong Stadium welcomed a crowd that ranked among its all-time top three.
A Record Crowd at Bill Armstrong Stadium
The atmosphere was electric, with the stadium’s historic ambience amplified by the presence of nearly 7,000 fans, marking the third-largest soccer gathering in the venue’s history.
From the opening whistle the Hoosiers imposed their rhythm, pressing high and carving out chances that would soon translate into goals.
Debutants Make Their Mark
Nine newcomers stepped onto the pitch, among them starters Wes Carnevale, Alex Matthews and Nick McHenry, who helped shape the early flow of the game.
Oliver Moller-Jensen opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing a swift move with a precise strike, and added a second in the 38th minute after a clever assist from Easton Bogard, who also found the net himself.
A Historic Series Result
Bogard’s contribution came early in the second half, when his goal extended the lead to 3-0 before Notre Dame pulled one back from a spot kick in the 83rd minute, ending Indiana’s shutout streak.
The three-goal margin was the first such result in eleven meetings since 2016, pushing Indiana’s all-time record against the Fighting Irish to 35-10-6.
What’s Next for the Hoosiers
Indiana will now host a three-game homestand next week, offering the team a chance to build momentum early in the season and test the chemistry of its newly integrated lineup.
