The Hopkins Post 320 American Legion baseball squad entered the Delano Stars and Stripes 4th of July tournament expecting a competitive matchup, but left with a 3-2 defeat that hinged on late-inning drama.
Sixth Inning Surge
Buffalo broke the deadlock in the bottom of the sixth, plating three runs that put them ahead and forced Hopkins to chase the score.
Pitchers Van Tellier of Hopkins and Will Miriovsky of Delano had kept the game scoreless through five innings, showcasing tight control and disciplined pitching.
In the seventh inning, Hopkins rallied with a two-run double from Lincoln Heath, narrowing the gap and sparking hopes of a comeback.
Despite the late push, Buffalo’s earlier lead proved enough, and the final out sealed a narrow loss for the Post 320 squad.
The tournament is slated to continue through Saturday, giving both teams another chance to fine-tune their strategies before the weekend concludes.
