The Spokane Indians fell to a 14-6 defeat in the final game of their Northwest League series against the Hillsboro Hops, played at Avista Stadium on Sunday.
Offensive onslaught
Hillsboro’s offense exploded with 54 runs over six games, highlighted by a grand slam from Carlos Virahonda and a triple coupled with five RBIs from Kenny Castillo.
The loss dropped the Indians to 25-28 on the season, leaving them 4½ games behind Vancouver for the second-half playoff berth.
Castillo’s bat produced a triple and five RBIs, while Robert Calaz added a solo homer in the second inning and Yassel Soler contributed an RBI single early in the game.
A comeback built on aggression
The Hops rallied after an eight-run deficit, with Wilder Dalis and Ethan Hedges forcing in a run in the fifth before Virahonda’s seventh-inning grand slam stretched the lead to 13-5, capped by Kayson Cunningham’s solo homer.
Despite a strong start that saw the Indians’ first three batters reach base, the team could not sustain the momentum, and the Hops’ aggressive scoring strategy sealed the victory.
