Houston High School Tigers’ Home Opener Postponed Amid Construction Hiccups

Excavation challenges force a temporary venue switch while a $2.95 million facility nears completion

A Setback on the Field

The Houston High School Tigers were slated to open their season at home on September 4, but unexpected excavation problems have pushed that debut to later in the month.

Construction of the new eight‑lane track and natural grass field, funded by a $2.95 million bond approved by voters as Proposition K.I.D.S., has hit a snag as crews uncovered rock formations and other subsurface obstacles.

District officials have arranged for the Tigers’ first home game to be played at Cabool High School, a venue roughly 20 minutes away, while the work is completed.

The district aims to have the new facility ready for the second home game scheduled for September 18, which will also mark the first track meet at the school in decades.

Beyond the schedule, the project reflects a broader community investment aimed at providing a safe, modern space for students and preserving the neighborhood’s commitment to its athletic programs.
