Connecting World Cup Momentum to Local Soccer Culture
Houston Mayor John Whitmire, together with the Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash, has unveiled a program that will distribute 10,000 complimentary tickets to first‑time spectators for the remainder of the 2026 season.
The tickets will be allocated through a network of community organizations, nonprofit groups, youth programs and direct outreach to Houstonians who have never set foot in Shell Energy Stadium, ensuring that the offer reaches families across the city.
Jessica O’Neill, President of Business Operations for Houston Dynamo FC and Houston Dash, praised the mayor’s vision, saying the partnership makes the World Cup excitement a catalyst for long‑term engagement with the sport.
Mayor Whitmire emphasized that the city does not want the global tournament’s energy to fade once the final whistle blows, and that this initiative is a concrete step toward making Houston one of North America’s premier soccer markets.
By opening the doors of Shell Energy Stadium to new fans, the city hopes to nurture a deeper connection between residents and its hometown clubs, fostering a vibrant soccer community that can sustain the sport’s growth for years to come.
