A Scholar‑Athlete's Honor
Hudson Smith, a recent graduate of North Webster High School, has been named to the 2026 National Football Foundation Team of Distinction, a roster that acknowledges only 63 outstanding student‑athletes chosen from a national pool of 3,500 candidates.
The honor reflects more than athletic talent; Smith graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA, served as salutatorian of his class, and has been an active member of the National Honor Society and several extracurricular clubs, underscoring his commitment to the student‑athlete ideal.
Coach Christopher Wilson, who has guided the Knights for several seasons, praised Smith for his well‑rounded character and the positive influence he exerts on teammates and the broader community.
In addition to his academic record, Smith earned first‑team All‑District honors for the Knights in both 2024 and 2025, a testament to his consistent performance on the field.
A Louisiana First
Among the 63 honorees, Smith stands alone as the only representative from Louisiana, a distinction that highlights the caliber of talent emerging from the state's northwest region.
Steve Hatchell, a longtime advocate for youth sports in the area, noted that the recognition brings pride to the local community and serves as inspiration for younger athletes aspiring to balance scholarship and sport.
The National Football Foundation, in partnership with the College Football Hall of Fame, celebrates these young leaders who embody the organization's mission of fostering excellence both on and off the gridiron.
