Hunter Cattoor, the 2022 ACC Tournament MVP, has rejoined Virginia Tech not as a player but as an assistant coach under head coach Mike Young. His return marks a full‑circle moment for a program that has watched him evolve from a record‑setting shooter into a strategic mind on the bench.
Cattoor’s playing résumé reads like a catalog of achievements: a championship‑mindset, a high‑IQ brand of basketball, and a knack for clutch moments such as the game‑clinching steal against Duke. Over five seasons he amassed 1,523 points, set the school record for three‑pointers (332), and appeared in 152 games, the most in Hokies history.
Before stepping into his new role, Cattoor honed his analytical skills with the Long Island Nets of the G League, where he averaged 8.4 points in 27 appearances. That experience, combined with his deep familiarity with the Hokies’ system, equips him to contribute immediately to the team’s tactical development.
