Returning to Blacksburg: A Familiar Face Joins Coaching Staff
Hunter Cattoor, who once dazzled as a starting guard for Virginia Tech’s Hokies, is back in Blacksburg — this time not as a player but as a member of head coach Mike Young’s coaching staff. The move caps a journey that saw Cattoor evolve from a freshman recruit in 2019 to a team leader who helped the program capture its first ACC Championship in 2022.
During his five seasons in Blacksburg, Cattoor appeared in 152 games, making 104 starts and averaging 10 points per contest. He shot 41.5% from three‑point range and scored in double figures during his final three seasons, earning ACC Tournament MVP honors in the process. His relentless work ethic and deep understanding of the program’s culture made him a natural fit for the next step.
Before returning to campus, Cattoor tested himself abroad, competing in a top French professional league and later earning a spot in the NBA G League. Those experiences broadened his tactical perspective and honed his ability to adapt to different styles of play, qualities he now hopes to pass on to younger teammates.
